The Communiqué on the Amendment to the Communiqué on the Importation of Certain Electric Vehicles prepared by the Ministry of Trade was published in the Official Gazette in the previous days.
In his statement on the subject, OSD President Cengiz Eroldu reminded that with the Communiqué on the Importation of Certain Electric Vehicles, which was published in the Official Gazette on 31 December 2023 and entered into force on 1 January 2024, the obligation to obtain a ⁇ Permission Certificate ⁇ for electric cars imported from countries that do not have a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and Turkey was introduced.
Referring to the requirements for the permit, Eroldu stated that in order for the permit certificate to be issued, it was necessary to certify that at least 20 authorized service stations in 7 geographical regions were established by the importer himself, that the persons responsible for electric vehicle maintenance and repair should have a certificate of competence, and that the importer company should establish a call center with at least 40 personnel in Turkey.
Eroldu stated that the vehicle group, which has been included in the scope with the new communiqué, has been expanded and pointed out that the regulation, which previously covered only electric cars, includes hybrid cars that can be charged externally, as well as commercial vehicles for carrying electric and externally rechargeable hybrid goods.
Stating that they have observed that many measures have been taken around the world, especially in recent years, in order to protect the competitiveness of countries and to allocate the security of local consumers, Eroldu said:
⁇ We evaluate the communiqué, which was published by our Ministry of Commerce and entered into force on January 1, 2024 and expanded in scope, positively in terms of protecting our country's consumers, ensuring service quality, observing the competitiveness of the automotive industry and our economy. Today, the share of domestic vehicles in the automobile market, which has reached 40 ⁇ in the past, has decreased to 25 ⁇ , this regulation will also have a positive effect in terms of protecting / developing the share of domestic vehicles in the automobile market. ⁇
Eroldu reported that Turkey is among the important players in the production of commercial vehicles worldwide.
Reminding that Turkey declined from first to second place among the European Union countries this year and took 9th place in the world, Eroldu shared the following information:
⁇ The share of commercial vehicles in our volume exports is 35 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the commercial vehicle market is about 40 percent. It is an important fact that the deterioration in the automotive foreign trade balance caused by the automobile group in the recent period is supported by the positive effect of our commercial vehicle production. For all these reasons, we consider it important for the economy of our country that commercial vehicles for transporting goods have been added to the scope of the communiqué published by our Ministry of Trade. In addition, we find it important to evaluate the inclusion of commercial vehicles for passenger transportation in the scope of the regulation in the coming period, as well as commercial vehicles for transportation of goods. ⁇
