French President Emmanuel Macron said at an international conference on Monday that he expects foreign investment of \u20ac93 billion in \u201crekor\u201d, including artificial intelligence and data centers.<\/p>\n

Macron\u2019's annual \u201cFranceChoose \u2019 event is expected to feature nearly 200 \u201d executives from around the world at the Versailles palace west of Paris\u2019.<\/p>\n

The projects announced at last year's conference set a record of 20 billion Euro\u2019.<\/p>\n

But according to a figure from Macron\u2019's office, the money pledged for this year is expected to exceed a total of 87 billion Euro\u2019 collected over the past eight years.<\/p>\n

Macron, \u201cFranceChoose \u2019This edition of \u2019 alone will allow clarification of a record amount of approved investment of \u20ac93 billion for more than 15,000\u2019 jobs. By far a record edition and a historic event, \u201d said.<\/p>\n

Macron said the commitments included 45 billion Euro\u2019s from Japanese technology investor SoftBank\u2019.<\/p>\n

Its founder, Masayoshi Son, said he would spend 75 billion euros on artificial intelligence infrastructure over the weekend, of which 45 billion euros will be spent on data centers in northern France, \u2019, by 2031.<\/p>\n

Macron said other investments will be spent on \u201cartificial intelligence, data centers\u201d, as well as semiconductors, critical minerals, tractors and trucks, steel and healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u2018EuropeanComputer capabilities in \u2019<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

Macron said that the projects will help \u201c to become the leading country hosting \u2019 France's data centers by far\u201d and \u201c Europe\u2019 to computing capacity in \u201d, as well as creating an advanced foundation for the production of \u201cya artificial intelligence robots and industrialization through artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n

Compared to the US and China, \u201cEurope is clearly bridging the gap we have in computing capacity at \u2019, \u201d added.<\/p>\n

SoftBank\u2019's Son, France, said \u2019's nuclear-powered electricity was an important factor in choosing France\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now we can convert electricity into higher-value intelligence as \u201chammad, including for export, \u201d added.<\/p>\n

Canadian asset manager Brookfield will invest $10 billion (\u20ac8.5 billion) in a data center in the Escaudain region of northern France.<\/p>\n

Investment firm Ardian and Scandinavian data platform Verne will invest $5 billion (\u20ac4.2 billion) in a data center in the Paris region.<\/p>\n

US firm Salesforce has announced that it will invest $2 billion (\u20ac1.7 billion) by 2030, including its artificial intelligence center in Paris\u2019.<\/p>\n

Taiwanese group Foxconn\u2019 is expected to invest \u20ac120 million in the western city of Angers for a motherboard production line for artificial intelligence in partnership with French supercomputer expert Bull, sources told AFP news agency.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, France's retail giant Amazon said it would invest more than \u20ac15 billion in \u2019 over the next three years to create 7,000 jobs, adding that it would create an extra 1,000 jobs at three logistics centers.<\/p>\n

\u2018Most foreign investments\u2019<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n

Announcements about rare earth elements were also presented at the conference.<\/p>\n

The country received more interest from AI-related projects than elsewhere in Europe\u2019, but the industry, particularly the automobile, chemical and metallurgical sectors, suffered.<\/p>\n

Economist Sylvain Bersinger said the announcements at Versailles\u2019 should not overshadow the fact that overall institutional investment in \u201cFrance\u2019 is stagnant, that reindustrialization is more of a religious wish than a reality, and that France\u2019 does not look more attractive to foreign investors than its neighbors.<\/p>\n
