Telecom operator Meo is suing the Portuguese state for \u20ac81.7 million in damages following the removal of Huawei equipment from Portuguese \u2019's 5G networks, the newspaper P\u00fablico reported on Monday.<\/p>\n
The report includes the applications made on the Citius portal regarding the cases filed against the Public Prosecutor's Office and the State Law Center in \u2019ne, Lisbon Administrative Court on April 24.<\/p>\n
Meo, part of the Altice Portugal portfolio, argues that \u2019 was harmed by \u2019's \u201cidari decisions by the Security Assessment Commission, which operates under the Supreme Council for Cyber Space Security, \u201d.<\/p>\n
As a result, the company announced that \u201c was exposed to special and abnormal damage.<\/p>\n
This is a decision that marks the \u2019 high risk of using equipment from suppliers outside the EU, NATO or OECD for national 5G network security, as agreed by the commission in the first half of 2023\u201c and first reported by the Lusa news agency.<\/p>\n
The decision was implemented in cases where the legal framework of the country where the supplier is located allowed the government to implement \u201c control, intervention or pressure on the company's activities abroad.<\/p>\n
The decision did not directly refer to any country or company, but Huawei was its main target both in Portugal\u2019 and other European countries followed by similar exclusions.<\/p>\n
As reported by ECO magazine, Huawei technology was widely used by Meo in building its 5G network, and the decision forced the company to overhaul that part of its operations.<\/p>\n
Huawei filed an administrative lawsuit against the \u2019nde decision in the September 2023\u2019te Lisbon Administrative Court. Nine months later, Lusa\u2019ya, a spokesman for the Security Assessment Commission, said \u201c was following the judicial course of the case.<\/p>\n
The decision has sparked criticism from the Portuguese \u2019's telecommunications sector. November 2023\u2019te Vodafone Portugal general manager Lu\u00eds Lopes said that the Expresso\u2019ya commission's move is more \u2019agresive\u201c than the measures implemented elsewhere in AB\u201d, and therefore \u201c is not particularly well evaluated.<\/p>\n
