The company confirmed the cuts on Thursday, describing them as an efficiency move to free up investment in priority areas of the business. Bloomberg, who first reported the news, also said Meta\u2019 plans to fill about 6,000 vacancies.<\/p>\n
Meta has already said that its costs will increase significantly next year, reaching somewhere between $162 billion (143 billion euros) and $169 billion (150 billion euros), driven by the increasingly eye-catching salary packages it offers investors, infrastructure spending and artificial intelligence experts.<\/p>\n
Wedbush analyst Dan Ives was optimistic about the disruptions in the note he sent to investors, and \u2019 argued that Meta\u201c once used artificial intelligence tools to automate tasks that required large teams, allow the company to streamline operations and reduce costs while maintaining productivity, and increase the need for a leaner operating structure.<\/p>\n
Also on Thursday, Microsoft said it had offered to buy volunteers to thousands of U.S. employees.<\/p>\n
According to two people familiar with the plan who are not authorized to speak publicly, the software giant announced its proposals at the beginning of May to approximately 8,750 employees, roughly the size of the U.S. workforce. %7\u2019sine plans to expand.<\/p>\n
Unlike the rough tool used by Meta and Oracle in the form of mass layoffs, Microsoft\u2019's approach gives staff the option to leave on their own terms.<\/p>\n
But the savings are probably due to the same basic pressure, namely the enormous cost of building artificial intelligence infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Microsoft has spent billions of dollars managing an ever-expanding network of global data centers that support cloud computing, AI systems, and its own productivity tools, including AI assistant Copilot.<\/p>\n
