Taiwan, home of the world's largest contract chip maker, spent several hours before the White House quickly changed direction. \u2019 was subject to a tariff. While the White House continues to impose a baseline tariff of 10\u2019 percent lower in most countries, it is also negotiating new taxes with about 75 countries.<\/p>\n
Chipmakers have so far been exempt from tariffs, but TSMC may be subject to further taxation unless it expands its investments in ABD\u2019.<\/p>\n

Trump had previously said that Taiwan \u2019 had taken away the U.S. \u2019's chip business and wanted it back.<\/p>\n
In March, TSMC announced that it would invest $100 billion (\u20ac90.6 billion) in the country to build three sawdust foundries, an R&D center and two packaging plants in Arizona\u2019. This comes on top of a commitment to invest $65 billion (58.9 billion euros) in three sawdust foundries in the province, one of which is operational. This will represent the largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history.<\/p>\n
At the time, the US president said investments would mean \u201c thousands of jobs and high-paying jobs.<\/p>\n
But on Tuesday, the US president said he would impose a tax of up to 100 percent on the chip giant if it does not establish facilities in the country.<\/p>\n
