As Virgin Group plans to raise \u00a3700 million (\u20ac832.9 million) for the project, a competitor to the inter-channel train service Eurostar\u2019a could emerge in 2029\u2019.<\/p>\n
The high-frequency service will initially connect London\u2019 to Paris and Brussels\u2019, while trains to Amsterdam\u2019 are part of the long-term plan.<\/p>\n
Virgin Group, which originally published the story in the Financial Times, said \u2019a plans to raise \u00a3300 million (\u20ac356.9 million) in equity and \u00a3400 million (\u20ac475.9 million) in debt.<\/p>\n
The firm, which is owned by billionaire Richard Branson\u2019a, also said that FT\u2019ye plans to become a basic capital investor by providing a large amount of funds for the launch of the service.<\/p>\n
London St Pancras train station is working with Getlink, the owner of the Channel tunnel, to increase passenger capacity at \u2019's international train terminal as demand grows.<\/p>\n
St Pancras is preparing to more than double the number of passengers who can travel from the station on international trips.<\/p>\n
Last year, Getlink offered a \u00a350 million (\u20ac59.5 million) subsidy to develop new Cross-Channel rail services.<\/p>\n
For Eurostar competitors, the installation process will still be a challenging one due to the dispute over the East London rail depot.<\/p>\n
The warehouse is the only space where high-speed trains between the Channels can be parked, and Eurostar claims to use all available points.<\/p>\n
Virgin, along with another new contender, Evolyn, applied to \u2019's railway regulatory agency in the United Kingdom for access.<\/p>\n
Virgin Group spokesperson Euronews\u2019e said that \u201c is ripe for cross-channel route change and will benefit from competition.<\/p>\n
